As an English Major, I am often called upon to research topics relating to literature and to present them in essay form. While this writing is decidedly in the vein of academia, the skills required to perform this task successfully are applicable in many forms of writing, particularly journalism. A well-researched thesis will demonstrate the ability to assert an argument and to back it up with factual evidence. Where to research, how to find and discern the credible sources from biased ones, and how to best use your sources are all integral to crafting a good piece of investigative writing and one that will require a good understanding of how to create a credible but compelling story.
